Remitly is a mobile payments service that enables consumers to conveniently make person-to-person international money transfers from the United States. Airlift was asked to help not only build their brand, but also provide a clear personality for their overall experience.
The online remittance industry emerged as an alternative to costly and inconvenient in-person global remittance providers — thus, the category spent most of its infancy appealing to the customer through purely functional benefits — offering lower fees, speed, efficiency, and convenience in a transactional way.
Remitly’s aspirational goal is to form a trusted and highly emotional brand based on a simple premise of loyalty for a long lasting relationship with it’s customers. We took this goal to heart and provided explorations that clearly demonstrated this promise.
Our Approach & Results
Utilizing mail (delivery), a shield (trust) and handshake (promise) provided a clear message for the basis for the Remitly brand. The brand system also had to be genuine, frank, determined, personal and welcoming because at the core of their company is their reputation for helpful customer service.
The final brand system incorporated color and typography that is synonymous with trust, while still providing a modern design system which helped set apart Remitly from it’s competitors. The final results are a highly communicative brand that early extends beyond a simple logo but an overall trusted experience for it’s customers.
